FOXBOROUGH, Mass. New England Patriots cornerback JC Jackson, who finished second in the NFL last season with nine interceptions, officially signed his second free-throw tender on Friday, according to a source.
The tender includes Jackson in a $ 3.38 million one-year contract for 2021, and then he is expected to be an unlimited free agent next season.
The deadline for teams to sign restricted free agents to offer skins is April 23, and others around the NFL may soon follow Jackson’s lead. Green Bay’s tight end Robert Tonyan, who was also featured in the second round after catching 11 times last season, is one of the most striking.
One line of thinking was that players like Jackson and Tonyan could attract interest from other teams, which they could sign to present sheets and then hand over a second round draft pick if the players’ teams did not want to play.
But with a premium for a premium in the NFL versus a premium, there wasn’t much traction with the limited agency market in the off-season.
Jackson, 25, was a success story in New England after initially joining in 2018 as an unknown free agent from Maryland. He has played in 45 games in the regular season, with 22 starts, and 17 distinctions.
