Build on the success of the Xperia 1 II, the upcoming Xperia 1 III boasts an industrial design that is again characterized by the presence of a large 6.5-inch 21: 9 screen and uniform edges.
Sony has focused most of its efforts on reducing the thickness of the rings, and this is noticeable in the sizing department. While the Xperia 1 II is measured at 165.1 x 71.1 x 7.6 mm, the Xperia 1 III ends up at only 161.6 x 67.3 x 8.4 mm.
This setup is coupled to an updated frame, presumably carved from aluminum, which is now completely flat. It includes a volume rocker, an on / off button that also serves as the fingerprint scanner, a dedicated shutter button and a new keyboard shortcut like the on expensive Xperia PRO.

Like the previous model, Sony’s Xperia 1 III is aimed at power users, so it includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot. To ensure the best sound experience, Sony has retained the dual speakers at the front, leaving the bottom of the housing to the USB-C port.

Sony does not stick to the camera department

Periscope cameras became quite popular in 2020 Sony skipped the feature on both of its flagships. However, to address the related complaints and keep up with the competition, the Japanese brand has now decided to add one to its first 2021 model.

The exact specifications are not available at the moment, but the new zoom camera should offer at least 5x optical zoom, although 10x can not be ruled out, and it sits next to a 3D Time-of-Flight sensor, the main camera, and which is probably an ultra-wide shooter.

Just like last year, the entire camera system was developed in collaboration with ZEISS and is a ZEISS T-layer.

As for the selfie section, there is a single sensor in the top edge. Its specifications have not been released.

The Xperia 1 III must be powered by the Snapdragon 888

At the heart of the Sony Xperia 1 III should be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. The latter is also used in the American Galaxy S21 models and means that the next Xperia flagship will be one of the fastest phones on the market.

As Hemmerstoffer confirms itself, the Xperia 1 III offers standard 5G network support, just like the previous generation. The more efficient modem means that the output of the related battery should be less noticeable.

The memory and memory is a bit of a mystery, but a sensitive guess can be made. Sony’s Xperia 1 II was provided with an 8/256 GB configuration last year, so the same could be on the cards for the 2021 model. Whether there are more expensive variants in progress remains to be seen.

Sony Xperia 1 III announcement, release date, price

The Sony Xperia 1 III is due to be announced later this quarter, possibly in late February or March. A launch date shortly thereafter would be ideal, but Sony tends to ship its flagship Xperia 1s by the end of the second quarter. If this is the case in 2021, you can expect the Xperia 1 III to be released around June.

Pricing is more of a guess at this point, although the Xperia 1 II sold at $ 1,199 last year and it would not be surprising to see that Sony has positioned the Xperia 1 III in the same way as focusing on a niche segment rather than on the main market.
