Sony has taken two new premium wireless home speakers: the RA5000 and the RA3000. The RA5000 is the one you see above, and it’s hard to deny the resemblance to an electric razor. Artem claims it looks like a set of atabaque drums.

The RA5000 and RA3000 are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless home speakers, featuring Sony’s Immersive Audio Enhancement and 360 Reality Audio technology, both of which contribute to enhancing the audio experience at home. Both are equipped with an Auto Volume feature to keep things consistent between songs, as well as sound calibration for optimal sound if you decide to move it into your home. These speakers do not have a built-in assistant and Alexa, but they are compatible with these assistants if you use another speaker or phone to activate playback. Both have built-in Chromecast and Spotify Connect.

Only the RA5000 is Hi-Res Audio certified; it has three speakers that shoot vertically (which gives the razor effect), three speakers that shoot horizontally and a subwoofer. Sony says the neodymium magnets with high magnetism and the membrane-reinforced cellular diaphragm give the speaker more striking power than the size would suggest. The RA3000, on the other hand, uses a full range of speakers, an omni-diffuser, a dual-passive radiator and vertical-shooting jet tweets. It is also worth mentioning that the RA3000 is resistant to moisture, which makes it good for kitchen and bathroom.

Only prices in the UK and Europe have been announced so far (£ 500 / € 599 for the RA5000, and £ 280 / € 359 for the RA3000), with both next month, but US availability has also been confirmed.
