After a recent spate of new phones of OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and others, now it looks like Sony is in the process of making plans to release a new Xperia phone on April 14th.
Sony recently twisted its hand when it launched the banner on the Xperia YouTube Page while he also allegedly sent invitations to members of the media. Sony’s banner gives no hints about the specific device or devices he intends to announce Sony’s new flagship phone is expected to be the Xperia 1 Mark III, with rumors that Sony will Xperia Compact also somehow.
According to leaks and a version posted by Steve Hemmerstofer (also known as @OnLeaks), the Xperia 1 III is expected to retain the minimalist design used on previous Xperia phones, while containing specifications that include Samsung’s Galaxy S21 + or even the S21 Ultra. OnLeaks says that the Xperia 1 III has a 4K 6.5-inch OLED screen with very thin edges and a triple rear camera with a Zeiss’ T * lens layer and possibly a Sony-designed periscope-style telephoto camera Cybershot- brand will contain.
As you would expect from a luxury phone in 2021, the Xperia 1 III is also believed to support 5G connectivity, along with stereo speakers, a bonus keyboard shortcut (which can also act as a dedicated camera shutter) and a fingerprint sensor built into the phone’s on / off button .

The Xperia 1 III is also reportedly also a dedicated 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD card slot, which are two features that Samsung has dropped on recent Galaxy S phones. For me it puts Sony in a very interesting position, because for the first time in years, the Xperia line is the best alternative for Samsung’s popular flagship phones, especially with LG seems to be on the verge of bending outside the mobile business.
According to Chinese leak ZACKBUKS (via TechRadar), other Xperia 1 III specifications, including a 120Hz refresh rate for its 6.5-inch screen, a Snapdragon 888 chip, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (or more, depending on the configuration).
Unfortunately, there is much less information about the rumored Xperia Compact, other than that it has a 5.5-inch screen, which is slightly larger than the iPhone 12 Mini’s 5.4-inch screen, but only slightly smaller than something like the Pixel 5 with its 6-inch screen. And if that’s not enough, there’s a chance Sony could announce refresh phones for the Xperia 5 and Xperia 10 lines also at its event.
Regardless, if Sony can continue to use the fantastic technology it offers in its mirrorless cams while throwing a bunch of premium features into the US and increasing carrier support in the US, the Xperia 1 Mark III could be just right which Sony needs to make a big comeback in the smartphone market.
