The upcoming series of PlayStation Plus games for January was announced just a few days back, but it now sounds as if Sony wants to refund those who previously bought one of the games. While it may not sound like this offer could extend to all titles in the series, the publisher may be doing so specifically with the PlayStation 5 offer for the month.
According to one report from Reddit, a person who bought January’s free PS5 game, Maneater, it is said in November that their money was returned to them. PlayStation allegedly sent a message to this user saying: ‘As a PlayStation Plus subscriber, we will refund the purchase price of this product to your PlayStation Store wallet, as it is a PlayStation Plus monthly game. It does not affect your ability to play the game, as we did not remove the game from your library. In essence, because this person has already bought Maneater shortly before the announcement that the title would go to PS Plus, Sony decided to just give their money back.

What is important to note in this report is that there is no way to specifically confirm that what is being claimed is true. Although the user concerned has no reason to lie about the situation in this way, they also did not provide any evidence that Sony did give them a refund via a screenshot or any other supporting documentation. So if you are in a similar situation and you are wondering if your money was not repaid as well, it may be because this situation did not occur.
Whatever the truth, that does not change the fact that the PlayStation Plus series for January is pretty excellent. While Maneater is the only PS5 title to be released this month, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Greed the PS4 games are offered. Although these games are not yet available to download via the service, they will go live on Tuesday, January 5th.
