Sony bought the long-running Evo fighting game tournament together.

Sony has teamed up with RTS, a new venture from Endeavor’s sports industry, to buy the Evolution Championship Series, the world’s biggest combat game. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Sony has said that Evo will return in online form this year and includes Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11 and Guilty Gear Strive.

No mention was made of Super Smash Bros. which has appeared regularly at Evo over the years. Mark Julio, CEO of business development at Evo, tweeted that Evo “is still open to all platforms”, adding that Tekken 7 will work on a computer, and computer cross-play will be possible for other titles be.

Sony co-founders Tony and Tom Cannon remain involved as ‘key advisers’, Sony said.

Evo Online takes place 6 to 8 and 13 to 15 August. Admission is free and players from North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America will be able to compete. Online heats will be broadcast live.
