Someone leaked a full game video of a new 2010 version Goldeneye 007 game intended for Xbox Live Arcade. A little history lesson for those who do not carry knowledge: barely originally developed the first Goldeneye 007 game for the N64, which makes a multiplayer game with a campaign based on the 1995 James Bond movie of the same name. The game was, to say the least, a hit, and people have wanted to see for years that the game comes alive again on a modern console. What they got when Activision somehow got the rights to participate in a new version of the game Daniel Craig as a mortgage instead of Pierce Brosnan, and more content is added to the game to make it a little more competitive and richer for multiplayer. Although it’s sleek and modern on the Nintendo Wii, it’s assumed that the 2010 version does not quite match the original. But that has not stopped Xbox from wanting to do its own remaster for Xbox Live Arcade.
Apparently the company got the process to get the source code and they worked to redistribute the remaster for XBLA but just could not get all the parties involved to make it work. As Xbox’s Phil Spencer said Twitter, there were “Many different parties to work with, we have always given up.” It makes sense to think that Rare (now owned by Microsoft) had to sign a deal with MGM (which owns the Bond franchise), and the game was eventually published by Nintendo. Add to that the fact that they work out the Activision 2010 version, and it’s a recipe for too many chefs who want their fair share of the cake to make it worth publishing. But thanks to who leaked the footage you see below, we can now get a taste of how it would have played out. This video shows the full Goldeneye 007 experience, with multiplayer and Brosnan returning to the role of Bond.
Oh, what could have been. And who knows, maybe it will rekindle interest on all sides to work together and release the thing so everyone can play it.
