Owners of some older Apple TVs will soon have to rely on AirPlie if they want to watch YouTube content on their devices.

Beginning next month, third-generation Apple TVs will no longer support the YouTube app, a YouTube spokesman confirmed to Gizmodo. Users with these devices will still be able to view YouTube content, but will have to discard it from another device instead of viewing it directly from their set-top box. 9to5Mac earlier report the loss of support.

“We are always working to ensure that our users have the best experience on YouTube, and from time to time we need to make changes to our list of supported devices,” a YouTube spokesperson told Gizmodo in an email. “As of early March, the YouTube app is no longer available on third-generation Apple TVs.”

The change does not affect new generations of the Apple TV box. Streamers with An Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD still has access to the YouTube app, just like iPhone and iPad owners. After the change, Apple TV owners who also have iOS devices will be able to stream YouTube content by sending it via AirPlies on any third-generation Apple TV.

Let’s hope the rumors next generation Apple TV helps reduce the cost of some of its newer existing models, so the upgrade is a bit cheaper. Otherwise, it’s time to get comfortable with AirPlie.
