Some have strayed from Danvers’ mass vaccination site due to errors

Some Massachusetts residents, who called 211 to book appointments for COVID-19 vaccines, say they were turned away from the Danvers Mass Vaccination Site this weekend, WBZ reports.

Curative, the company that manages the premises at the DoubleTree hotel in Danvers, said in a statement to WBZ that the list of appointments on Saturday was not received by the state’s dial-up system due to a problem with data sharing.

“Unfortunately, this one-day situation meant that we were unable to provide vaccinations to some who had booked an appointment with the 211 system,” the statement read. “We have taken their information and will plan them for an appointment as soon as possible.”

It is not clear how many people were turned away from the Danvers website on Saturday.

The state’s dial-in system was introduced last month after state lawmakers put pressure on Governor Charlie Baker to create one amid a shaky initial vaccination. Vaccine appointment security has been notorious since the start of Phase 2 in February, with scarce availability, frequent on-site interruptions and sometimes complicated scheduling procedures.

The Danvers website drew attention to local news last month because an apparent rumor of extra doses prompted a large number of residents to make shots without appointments. Most had to be turned away.
