Some AirPods Max owners complain about condensation in ear cups

Since the AirPods Max headphones were released on December 15, there have been more and more complaints from MacRumors readers who have experienced a problem with condensation.

airpods maximum condensation

Some ‌AirPods Max‌ owners who have been wearing their headphones for a long time have noticed that condensation has formed in the earpiece. Of MacRumors reader song:

So I only had my AirPods max for less than a week and noticed that after prolonged use there is a decent amount of condensation in the ear cup.

this is noticeable when you detach the magnetic cushions from the ear cup.

The condensation appears to occur regardless of the temperature, and most people report it after a few hours of use, but for some it appears within an hour or two. One user claimed that the condensation caused problems with active noise cancellation, but this was not reported by other AirPods Max owners and no one reported problems caused by condensation.

Other owners of AirPods Max said the same problem happened with headphones from other brands. Of MacRumors reads JBGoode:

I get it on my Sony WH1000XM3. I’ve had them for a long time and it’s not a big deal. Have any of you owned the head cans before? Your ears will sweat and there will be condensation. I think it’s pretty common for these types of headphones.

The ‌AirPods Max‌ is not water resistant and those affected by the condensation are concerned about the longevity of the headphones with the water droplets colliding inside each other. The ear cushions are not affected and remain dry despite the condensation in the ear cups.

Some ‌AirPods Max‌ owners returned the headphones, while others picked up AppleCare + in case of future problems. Apple has not yet commented on the issue.
