Soldier troops for homeless girls sell 5,000 boxes of cookies

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (CNN) – An Iowa Girl Scout troop has broken its cookie sales target for 2021 and sold an impressive five thousand boxes.

The girls themselves are even more amazing because they had to overcome a big obstacle, they are homeless.

All the girls in Troop 64224 in Council Bluffs live in the house of Micah, a homeless shelter.

Despite COVID-19 and the inability to go door-to-door this year due to the pandemic, the girls put on their diapers and go to work.

Their original goal was a thousand boxes of cookies and to sell a box in all fifty states.

Members of the community also volunteered to help, order cookies online and even upload or deliver.

Through social media, the girls’ cookies were able to sell cookies and even have them transported to all fifty states, as they had hoped.

The house’s children’s program specialist, Kayla Terrillion, said: “All of our girls are brand new because of COVID-19. So it’s brand new eyes, brand new ideas, brand new needs and desires they want to achieve from Girl. Scouts.”

The money raised from cake sales will help pay for the Girl’s Scouts’ field trips later this year.
