Snow piled on subways holds riders for more than an hour

Strap hangers were trapped in a Q train for nearly 90 minutes Monday afternoon due to snow on above-ground train tracks in Brooklyn, a rider told The Post.

‘We’re been sitting between Parkside and Prospect Park for an hour and 20 minutes now. There is no heat in the train, there are 3 people not wearing masks, no kind of ventilation, ‘said Q Turner Rachel Turner just after 3:30 p.m.

“About 30 minutes ago we were told that the snow had piled up too much to move forward and that we had been given permission to move back to Parkside to get off, but since then there has been no word from anyone.”

Transit officials confirmed the service outage – which stopped the last Q train that was scheduled to cross the Manhattan Bridge before subway roads closed – said on Twitter that they had to clear up ‘accumulated snow’.

The train briefly lost power during the wait, the MTA confirmed, leaving Turner and others cool. The train and its passengers were eventually returned to Parkside Avenue station, Turner said.

She finally left the train at 15:38

With the subway out of service from 2 p.m., Turner walked 0.6 miles to access the nearest train bound by Manhattan.

An MTA spokesman later blamed the delay for ‘snow obstructing equipment on the tracks’. An investigation is underway.

“It was an isolated incident on a day of extremely severe weather, and we apologize to our customers for the frustrating and disturbing delay,” MTA representative Shams Tarek said in a statement.

“Preliminary findings are that power was lost for some time during the incident, which is related to the obstruction of equipment on the tracks.”
