Snow blowers recalled due to amputation risk

And if it’s made by Toro, it’s time to check your model number.

According to the US Consumer Products Commission, the company recalls approximately 6,700 Toro Power Max 826 OHAE snow throwers with the model number 37802.

The snow blowers were sold nationwide and online by Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Toro dealers between November 2020 and January 2021 for approximately $ 1200.

What is the problem?

It has to do with the auger – that is, the rotating corkscrew-like device that scoops up the snow and throws it through the drain.

Toro’s recalled snow blowers have augers that may not come loose when the steering lever is released, meaning the auger may not stop turning if it has to.

This carries a higher risk of injury and amputation, the company says.

“The firm has received five reports of incidents related to auger that could not disengage when the control lever was released,” Toro wrote. ‘No injuries were reported.’
