‘SNL’ accepts Derek Chauvin trial via Minnesota morning show

“It’s been a tough week for news,” said Nwodim’s anchor. “There’s so much to go into, but first we’re starting the trial of Derek Chauvin.”

Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, is facing charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

The anchor of Nwodim said watching the trial brings back ‘so many bad feelings’ from last summer.

“It sounds like we all agree that Derek Chauvin can not walk away from this,” McKinnon’s anchor said.

Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors stop her there.

“Well …”, Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors said, scratching their faces.

Nwodim’s anchor adds: “Let’s say, we’ve seen this movie before.”

McKinnon’s anchor noted that “the police have historically escaped in other cases like this.”

“Historic?” Ask Thompson’s anchor.

“She means every time,” Nwodim’s anchor said.

Moffat’s anchor then tried to jump in and said he wanted to choose his words carefully when talking about topics such as race.

“To quote Thomas Jefferson …” he begins.

“It’s a bad start,” Thompson’s anchor replied.

McKinnon’s anchor then said that the morning shows should get a different opinion, which is why she asks the black weatherman of Chris, played by Chris Redd.

“Man, don ‘t put me in this mess!” Redd’s weatherman said. “I’m still in hot water because I was in the Paul Pierce video.”

The news team then tries to move on to other big stories from this week.

“More sad news this week, unfortunately we lost royals yesterday,” McKinnon’s anchor said.

“Yes, the rapper DMX is dead,” Nwodim’s anchor added.

McKinnon’s anchor tried to correct her colleague by saying she was talking about ‘the prince’.

“Girl, Prince was dead,” Nwodim’s anchor said, referring to the late singer.

Moffat’s anchor explained that he meant Prince Philip of England.

“Meghan Markle’s boyfriend ??” Ask Thompson’s anchor.

The team then tried to find another story that they could all agree on, but before long the anchors gave up and just said, “Live … From New York! It’s Saturday night!”
