Update: Last month, SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millennium was rated by the South Korean Rating Board for the Switch.

It was only a matter of time until the match would be official confirmed, and it looks like it’s that day today. SNK has just announced that the Neo Geo Pocket Color version of the popular battle cross will be coming to the Switch eShop on February 17th.

This 1999 version starts with 18 fighters to choose from, and there are eight more characters to unlock. As for the modes, there is a single, tag and team fight.

You will also be able to ‘play US battles and exchange different data’. In addition, there is a ‘new’ SC Olympic mode where you can try to break all records.

Will you join the fight when this affordable version of SNK vs. Capcom arriving on the Switch eShop? Tell us below.

Original story [Fri 22nd Jan, 2021 10:00 GMT]: In the nineties, the idea of Capcom and SNK working together was just as unlikely as Sega and Nintendo to lay down their arms and make friends (as it would ever happen, right ?!). When these two fighters announced a series of crossover games at the end of the decade, it caused a great stir.

We have Capcom teen SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 on the Dreamcast, next door SNK Teen Capcom: Card Fighter’s Clash on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. In addition, we also have SNK vs Capcom: Game of the Millennium on SNK’s handheld – probably one of the best portable one-on-one fighters ever made. This collaboration will also give us Capcom teen SNK 2 on Dreamcast (later transferred to the PS2, GameCube and Xbox) and SNK teen Capcom Choas on Neo Geo, as well as the rather disappointing SNK Teen Capcom Card Fighters DS a short time later.

As the name of this sub-series suggests, each game boasts characters from the respective franchises owned by these two Japanese giants. Street Fighter’s cast thus clashed with the stars of King of Fighters – such a thing. Match of the Millennium took things to the next level and even included like Arthur from Ghosts a goblins in his own mini-game. Interestingly, the title Neo Geo Pocket Color can be linked to the Dreamcast Capcom vs. SNK via a special connecting cable, which allows you to unlock characters by earning points when you play on the go.

According to the South Korean judging panel, SNK is on its way to the Switch against Capcom: Match of the Millennium. The game was recently rated for release in that region – a pretty good indication that a game is incoming. It will presumably be part of SNK’s current quest to release several of its best-known Neo Geo Pocket Color titles on Switch; we already had SNK Gals’ Fighters, Samurai Shodown II, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.

What makes this new version remarkable is that it is an indication that SNK and Capcom are willing to work together again. While SNK developed and published this particular game, it contains the IP address of Capcom, so we assume that a new agreement had to be signed for this reissue to take place.

Can we possibly have other titles in the Capcom vs. SNK series released on modern platforms? Or maybe the two companies are working on a brand new crossover release?

Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!
