SNHD to make appointments for second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Starting this week, the Southern Nevada Health District will make contact with people who are eligible to receive their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The administration of second doses is received based on the amount of first doses administered, and appointments are only available to residents who have received their vaccinations from a clinic in the health district, the health district said in a news release.

The health district began administering the first doses of Moderna vaccine in the week of January 4th. The second dose can be administered after 28 days.

The health district began administering the first doses of Pfizer vaccine in the week of January 18th. The second dose of this vaccine can be administered after 21 days. Planning for the second dose appointment begins the week of February 1st. People who are eligible for a second dose appointment in the health district will be notified using the contact information they shared at the time they received their first dose, and they will then receive scheduling information.

If someone who has received a first dose from a non-health district clinic is planning an appointment, they will not be vaccinated and are advised to contact their original provider to receive their second dose.

The health district is implementing a new registration and appointment system. Since the new system is fully implemented, people will have the option to plan their second dose appointment when they receive their first vaccination.

Additional information about the new COVID-19 vaccine is available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/transmission/variant.html.
