SLO County’s rate drops to 9.4, and meets the threshold for the return of youth sports

San Luis Obispo County’s COVID-19 adjusted business rate dropped to 9.4, according to updated reopening statistics released Tuesday.

It meets the criteria of the state to be able to resume outdoor sports. Last week, the state issued new guidelines stating that organized and recreational sports and adult recreational sports can be resumed from February 26 in provinces where the COVID-19 rate is per 100,000 people or less.

Last Tuesday, the adjusted case rate of SLO was 15.6. It has fallen every week since the Southern California regional stay-at-home order was lifted and the country returned to the press level.

The country’s positivity rates also fell this week, with both the overall positivity rate and the Healthy Places Index (HPI) positivity rate at the orange level (3.2% and 3.8% respectively). Another week like this and the country could move into a less restrictive level.

Land Officer for Public Health, dr. Penny Borenstein, said earlier that SLO County could move out of the purple level and into the red level if both the positivity rates remain at orange levels for two weeks. Otherwise, the country’s adjusted rate should be 7 or lower.
