SLO County reports 33 new COVID-19 cases

San Luis Obispo County Public Health officials on Thursday reported 33 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the province’s total to 20,704 confirmed cases by April 8.

Health officials say seven people are currently hospitalized. Another 216 are strong at home and according to officials, 20,221 people have recovered.

Fourteen of the 38 licensed and crew members’ beds in the country are currently occupied. No one is taken by COVID-19 patients, but one resident of the SLO province is in an ICU outside the province.

San Luis Obispo County has had 256 deaths due to the virus.

The city of San Luis Obispo’s total number of cases exceeded the city of Paso Robles on Thursday. During most of the pandemic, the total of Paso Robles far exceeded that of other local cities. The latest score shows San Luis Obispo with 4,066 total cases, six more than Paso Robles.

During a press conference on Wednesday, dr. District Health Officer Penny Borenstein acknowledges that the higher number of cases comes from San Luis Obispo.

“Lately we’re seeing more in San Luis than anywhere else,” she said. “There is undoubtedly a contribution from our younger population living in this country, especially Cal Poly, and we certainly see certain cases in the K-12 era as well, so it’s not very surprising, but we all have to work harder to lower our tariff. ‘
