Sixers Bell Ringer: Sixers’ two stars do not get much help in the ugly loss to Cleveland

Note: No traditional summary post for this game.

Sixers Bell Ringer Season:

Joel Embiid – 14
Ben Simmons – 7
Tobias Harris – 6
Skud Milton – 3
Tyrese Maxey – 1
Dakota Mathias – 1
Matisse Thybulle – 1

Tonight is the night that Tobias Harris became an All-Star. With the third Philadelphia star on the sidelines with a bruised knee, the team’s two main lines got no help from the fans, losing 112-109 to Cleveland, a defeat all the more painful because we had five extra overtime minutes suffer. The Sixers are now in a heat with Brooklyn for first place in the Eastern Conference. By the time you read this, the Nets could have only moved into first possession by beating Dallas. Well, let’s pick a Bell Ringer and erase this game from the old memory banks.

Joel Embiid: 42 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers

Joel did his best to carry the Sixers offensively and knock the Cavs into the post on a night on which he also made the outside shot work – basically the unstoppable Embiid combo package. He finishes 13-out-22 from the field, 2-out-3 from downtown and 14-out-16 from the foul line. A bouncing jumper at the end of the first half was something an All-NBA guard would have in his arsenal. At the point of regulation, Embiid looked up twice and drove left on Jarrett Allen, dipping right into the face of the new Cavs center. In overtime, JoJo was still the only Sixer to get anything going, and he scored 12 of the team’s 17 points in the frame. It would have been a career night for many guys. It was not even Joel’s first game this month.

Ben Simmons: 24 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 7 turnovers

Not the biggest Ben game, to be honest, because six of his seven turnovers were bad passes outside of character. But it was good to see him off in the attack. He set the pace for a handful of thunderous finishes in the transition, which we have seen so many times, but Simmons also expanded his repertoire with nearly half a dozen brackets on the inside against powerful newcomer Isaac Okoro. Oh, and for the “shoot a 3, you coward” crowd, Ben hit a completely pointless 3 at the end of overtime.

Mike Scott: 5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover

After Furkan Korkmaz was extremely inefficient, Scott replaced him next door.

the starting lineup in the second half. Mike tackled both of his field goal attempts, a timely cut from a Simmons post-up, and then a top-of-the-key 3 from a Joel kick-out. The veteran forward was also solid in his defensive rotations; generally good minutes from Scott, who the team will definitely need while Tobias stays out.
