Sixers Bell Ringer: Sixers survive a Bradley Beal blast and hold off Wizards

Sixers Bell Ringer Season:

Joel Embiid – 3
Tobias Harris – 3
Dakota Mathias – 1

On the events of the day, I leave this joint statement from the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat here:

Hopefully this silly little message helps to bring joy into your lives in a small way too.

Going over to the game that took place tonight in Philadelphia … it was WILD. The Sixers were hot in the first half. They scored 82 points in the first half on 12-of-15 shots from 3. At one point in the second quarter, they scored 13 ball possession. Despite scoring as many as 21 points in the third quarter, however, the Wizards would not go quiet, led by Bradley Beal, who scored only 57 of his 60 points in his career in the first three quarters. After Washington took the lead halfway through the fourth quarter, the Sixers finally pulled off the slide and made some big plays on the verge of triumph, 141-136. Bell Ringer time!

Oddly enough, tonight was a terrible start for Joel, who missed his first six shots off the field. However, he turned things around in a big way and was the MVP the Sixers needed in the bowels of the game. With the match tied 131-131 with four minutes left, Embiid managed to put the match to bed in a personal 8-0 manner. During the run, JoJo also swerved off the track to block a Bradley Beal layoff attempt, only to find out how he was doing it on both sides. He shot 3-of-4 from 3, a perfect 13-of-13 from the foul line, and in the second quarter had one of the busiest of the game with a block from former teammate Raul Neto. The MVP story gets a little steamy.

Seth Curry: 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 turnover

Seth looked early on as if he would be in line for a historic evening. He shot a perfect 5-out-of-5 in the first quarter and then made his sixth attempt to score 20 points in the first half. All three of his assistants lined up Embiid as Curry was able to pull several defenders and kick back to an open Joel. Imagine leaving Embiid open! The power of gravity. Although he was quieter in the second half, Seth did sink three midfielders in the fourth quarter, leveling the game or giving the Sixers the lead. Ice in his are!

Ben Simmons: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals, 3 turnovers

Ben’s 12 assistants were a season highlight; they included a vision crossroads from the pole to the opposite corner for a Tobias Harris 3, and a timely and precise supply to Embiid under the basket to set up the three-point game that broke the tie 131-131. The duo later swapped roles for the Sixers’ last basket, with Ben’s bucket at the bottom extending the lead to six and basically confirming the Philadelphia victory.

Tobias Harris: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers

Tonight was a slight step back for Tobias, who could barely finish his four with at least 20 points. However, he was still effective and shot 3-of-7 from 3 as part of an overall shooting night of 8-of-16. Big picture, Harris scored the 10,000 point for his career during the game. Congratulations, Tobi!
