Brittany Gosney, 29, is charged with murder, assault of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Police say Gosney’s two other children – who are both second-class – were in the car at the time of the murder, but did not cause any damage. According to authorities, they have since been placed in foster care.
“It really touched my soul and my heart,” Police Chief David Birk told a news conference Monday. ‘My children are older, but my youngest is 16, but I’m just sitting there, you know, the poor six-year-old has no idea what’s going on and what’s going on, and the other children have to go through that too. . It’s just heartbreaking. ā
Birk said Gosney indicated she also intended to drop the other two. Gosney allegedly lost custody of a fourth child who has been under state supervision since the murder of the 6-year-old.
In an arrest report provided by The Middletown PD to The Daily Beast, it is said that Gosney “admitted that she took her son, James Robert Hutchinson, to Rush Run Park in Preble County, where she placed him outside her vehicle. ” After Gosney forced him out of the car, he told Detective John Hoover that the boy ‘tried to get back into the vehicle and she drove fast and dragged the child a short distance. The accused left the park and returned about 30 to 40 minutes later and found the child in the middle of the parking lot with a head injury. ā
Gosney then takes the remains of her son back home and places the body in a bedroom on the top floor.
“The next day she drove to the Ohio River and threw the body of the child into the river,” the report said.
Gosney’s boyfriend, James Russell Hamilton, 42, is accused of helping Gosney’s body after the fact. He is facing charges of abusing a corpse and tampering with evidence. Bail for Gosney has been set at $ 1 million in cash; Hamilton’s was at $ 105,000. Both remain in custody, Middletown police spokeswoman Shelby Quinlivan told The Daily Beast.
Gosney and Hamilton arrived at the police station around 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning to report her son missing, Birk said. He felt from the beginning that something was wrong because the two could not get their stories right. Birk described the situation as ‘just red flags’,
A few hours later, the two apparently admitted. The child’s body has not yet been recovered.
“I’m so sad that I do not care if I had a million dollars, but that he would not take her out, but he is more involved than it is said, he should get the same,” said a man who identified was posted as Gosney’s stepfather on his Facebook page. Monday.
In a letter to children of children at Rosa Parks Elementary School, where James Hutchinson attended first grade, principal Tracy Neely writes: ‘We all mourn today over the loss of our friend James. James was a happy and joyful soul who loved school. On the days he was in class, he gave all his teachers hugs when he walked to school. A fun memory I have is the way his face would light up when he won the lucky lunch tray! First class can find joy in just about anything. I will always remember his bright joy. ā
The school is holding a celebration of life for James Hutchinson on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. Gosney and Hamilton are due back in court on March 8.
