Six Capitol police officers suspended, others investigated for Capitol riots

Police in the Capitol of America have suspended six officers and are investigating a total of nearly 30 others in connection with their actions on the deadly January 6 riot.

Fox’s Washington, DC, branch, WTTG, the investigation only reported on Thursday, with the Capitol Police’s Office of Professional Responsibility in a statement:Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has instructed that any member of her department whose conduct is not in accordance with the department’s rules of conduct will receive appropriate discipline. ‘

CNN also reported on the investigation into the 35 officers, and added that additional persons could take place while investigators looked through social media messages and allegations that officers were involved in the riot itself.

The suspensions and investigations come amid mounting investigations into Capitol police’s response to the mob attack, in which several people died amid the chaos, including Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick. Two additional officers who responded to the riots have since died by suicide.

Capitol Police last month, in the days following the siege, confirms that it is investigating some of his officers’ actions, while Pittman said in a statement at the time that the department was “The review of videos and other open source material by some USCP officials and officials that appears to be in violation of the department’s regulations and policies.”

“Our Office of Professional Responsibility will investigate this conduct for disciplinary action, until termination,” Pittman added. “Several USCP officers have already been suspended pending the outcome of their investigations.”

Pittman took over as acting head of the department after former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund announced that he would resign amid lawmakers pushing the day after the Capitol invasion.
