Six arrested for changing iconic Hollywood sign to read ‘Hollyboob’

Six people have been arrested after changing California’s iconic “Hollywood” sign to read “Hollyboob.”

A canvas with the letter “B” was draped over the “W”, while a white stripe was placed over the “D” to make it look like a B.

The Los Angeles Times reports that five men and one woman were seen on video surveillance around 1:15 p.m. When a police helicopter arrived, they could see the group retreating into the steep terrain in the direction of the famous Mulholland Drive.

Officers met them at the bottom and their identities have not yet been revealed.

The incident could not be classified as vandalism ‘because the sign was not damaged’, said Capt. Steve Lurie, the commander of the Hollywood area, said.

The six will be charged with misconduct and released, he said.

According to the Deadline, one of the detainees told an officer that the gag was done in an attempt to raise awareness for breast cancer.

In addition, the office reports that the police presence due to the incident will increase for several days and possibly weeks.

The sign is not accessible to the public, but visitors can visit the surrounding Griffith Park. The sign is maintained by a group called the Hollywood Sign Trust.

A rep for the trust told the LA Times that the LAPD’s quick response is appreciated.
