Last night the old MTV News staff Totaalo send me a text Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: “Sit by the campfire.”

We talked on and off about the game, and he suggested I go watch something. Apparently, even if I had sunk in 90 hours last year’s biggest match– although I completed all the Animus Anomalies, eliminated most of the regional stories, and played extensively over the playoffs—I somehow missed a crucial hidden scene that had serious consequences for the relationship between two main characters.

Great treat follows for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

So, the campfire. This is not just a campfire, but specifically the one you see while exploring the contemporary segment in New England. And you have to sit on it after beating the main arc of the game, apparently once you are in Basim’s pace, yet unquestionably meaningful shoes. (Remember, following the events in the Hordafylke arch, the recent series character Layla ends up locked up in an ancient digital abyss. Basim, who was once presumed dead, uses a magic scepter to come back to life and in the 21st after the escape the real world, you control him rather than Layla contemporary story of Assassin’s Creed remains, as always, utterly astonishing.)

I got that point in my game, which is why I sent Basim to the campfire. “Oh, the wonderful smell of wood smoke,” he says. “I’m glad some things never change.” He then looks out over the idyllic American hinterland. It’s all very lovely. However, this is not really important.

Zack Zweizen, Kotakuin-house Assassin’s Creed lore master, had another experience. When he follows the same steps, he sees …

Yes, this is Eivor. It is not Eivor Eivor, mind you, but rather an appearance, something like the Force-ghosts of Star Wars. Look closely, and you can see the tips of a smile. In the full track, Eivor and Basim nod to each other, an acknowledgment of mutual respect. One could reasonably go so far as to suspect that Eivor basically said with one motion, ‘It’s all right, man. ‘

It does not matter how many hundreds of years have passed. If my brother disappeared for two years and then one day showed up with a strange man, and then that strange man planned to have my brother kidnapped and partially dissolved, and then the two of us secretly on a soul-searching adventure to our homeland. , and when his secret plan was constantly revealed at the worst possible moment, and then tried to kill me, I do not know that I would be so forgiving.

We also still do not know how the fuck Eivor’s skeleton ended up in New England. But Eivor – whether through the Animus magic technology or through Basim’s established presence in the 21st century – somehow still seems to be. And it is not as if there is no precedent for these things. Kassandra, the main character of 2018 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, could survive into modern times. (She is dead now.) I hope this means that Eivor, the strongest series person since Ezio Auditore, will reappear.

It’s unclear why Zack saw this scene, when I was finally caught up in a cruel ode to nostalgia. I played a lot of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but there are two more important tasks I have yet to complete. First, I did not complete the Hamtunscire arc. After learning what was happening, I decided that the eight to ten hours it took to defeat it – look, I’m playing these games at an exhausting methodical pace – would be better spent playing anything else. I also did not tackle any of the Asgard stuff, although this is first on my checklist for when I finally get back to the game.

Our best theory is that you must complete one or both segments before you can see Eivor in New England. Kotaku reached Ubisoft about the exact parameters needed to activate this cutscene.
