Harrison wanted to take on the challenge after reaching the finals in 2018 and thinking to herself, “Why not?” She also explained on her website that she was hoping to raise money for the charity ShelterBox by participating in the contest.

Fast forward to the end of 2020, and Harrison qualifies as one of only 21 boats (including solo rowers and crew of up to four) to enter ‘The World’s Toughest Row’ via ABC News.

All jokes aside, Harrison suffered a setback on Thursday when her boat capsized while she was sleeping, injuring her left elbow about 100 miles from the finish line.

“I was basically thrown about 20 miles per hour to a wall. It would hurt, especially in the middle of your sleep,” she recalls. Harrison was determined to keep going and told the race doctor that she was OK a few hours later and that she could go on safely.

Finally entering the harbor at the weekend, Harrison stopped smoking signals and waved the British flag as soon as she stepped ashore.
