Singapore professor lectures for 2 hours, dies inside after realizing he has been muted all along

A professor from Singapore appeared physically upset after realizing that he had wasted silent lectures for two hours. Dong Wang is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Like many educators around the world, he has taught online classes to help control the spread of COVID-19. A recent class, however, showed him the obstacles that come with such a way of teaching – especially those that are technical in nature. Students in the class said everything went well in the first few minutes until Wang’s screen froze. Unfortunately, the professor did not take notice and continued teaching for the next two hours. What Wang did not realize was that his microphone was muted. Eventually, he talked to himself the whole time. The Clueless professor first learned what happened at the end of class when he started asking questions. At this point, his microphone was already working. “Hello Prof, you were actually muted the whole time. So we could not hear from you since 18:08,replied one student. Wang’s response was recorded in a now-viral video. After realizing what had happened, he seemed to have a mild panic attack, and he hyperventilated for a moment before announcing that he would do the lecture.Youtube users claiming to have the class reported that they did “all kinds of things” to get his attention, but he simply ignored them. “The class started at 18:00 and he muted him from 18:08. Students tried all sorts of things to get his attention by muting his phone number and even calling,” user Asuza Chan wrote. “However, he did not respond and continued with the lesson.” Chan said many students left the classroom as soon as Wang’s screen froze. But more than 20 remained and “wait patiently” for a solution. It is unclear what caused Wang’s reading to freeze. But Chan suspects it must be because he’s using an iPad, which is not exactly ideal.

Wang’s response, first posted by user @queen_yx_ on TikTok, has now been viewed more than 653,000 times. A YouTube reposition by Singapore Incidents has been viewed nearly 130,000 times. “You can see how much sadness builds up in a matter of seconds. Try to make Prof. Stuff happen. Your determination will not go in vain,” wrote one YouTube user. Another said: “Taken [a/the class] under him before, he learns well. Feeling bad for him. Jia you prof! “ Meanwhile, it’s a joke, “Good trick. If you did not prepare your material for the lecture, you should dumb it down and then do Korean drama. It works all the time.” Screenshots via @queen_yx_
