Konami may be preparing not one, but two new Silent Hill entries, with one Japanese developer preparing this summer.
The report, compiled by VGC, suggests that Konami may be preparing two different reloads of the popular horror franchise, with one already well-developed in a Japanese studio. Bloober Team, developer of The Medium, could possibly work on the other, with CEO Piotr Babieno confirming that the studio was working on a horror IP from a ‘very well-known game publisher’.
“We’ve been working on another game project, another horror IP, for over a year, and we’re doing it with a very well-known game publisher,” Babieno said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. “I can not tell you who. I can not tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure if people realize we’re working on it, they’ll be very excited.”
This would be consistent with other hints that Bloober might be working on his own Silent Hill entry. Earlier this year, renowned Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka confirmed that he was working with Bloober on another game outside The Medium. Just a few weeks ago, Yamaoke also appeared on a video where he teased a project he described as ‘the one you were hoping for’. The video was quickly taken offline, and Konami denies involvement.
VGC reports that Konami previously approached Supermassive Games developer Dawn to develop a Silent Hill entry, but the plans went through and the agreement was never signed. The Silent Hill being developed in Japan will apparently also be a departure from the well-known game of the series, which is why Konami may have bought a more traditional reload idea as well.
Bloober Team recently confirmed they want to add more combat mechanics to their next title, after The Medium relied solely on puzzle exploration and solving. Since The Medium in the presentation is similar to Silent Hill, it is not difficult to imagine that Bloober will tackle the long-dormant franchise next.
