Video footage captures the moment a shopper rips off her underwear to use it as a face mask warned she would not be served without one in a supermarket.
The incident was filmed in a Pick n Pay supermarket in South Africa, where the female buyer was asked to wear a face mask while she was in the store.
However, she said she does not have one, which means she needs to get creative.
In the clip, the security guard can be seen asking the woman to put on a face mask and threatening to remove her from the store if she does not put one on.
The woman then reach under her dress and remove her panties before putting them on her face as an improvised mask.
Another buyer seems to be congratulating her and saying, “Well done.”
The clip has since gone viral, though not everyone believes the woman was right with her replacement, with many social media users defending the mandatory use of masks.
One Facebook user said: “Stay home and shop online if you do not like the idea of wearing a mask.”
Another said: “It makes me sick. She’s aware of the law worldwide. We have a serious virus and [she thinks] A G-string will save her.
“Come on big. What should your family think?”
In December 2020, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasizes that it is not a criminal offense not to wear a face mask in public.
Announcement that it is mandatory for every person to wear a mask in a public space, he said: ‘We now know that the simplest and most effective way to reduce coronavirus transmission is to wear a cloth mask that covers the nose and mouth whenever it is in public.
“Until now, the owners and managers of shops and public buildings, employers and managers of public transport have had the legal responsibility to ensure that everyone who enters their premises or vehicle wears a mask.
“But given the serious danger our country now faces, the adapted Level 3 regulations will make every person legally responsible for wearing a mask in public.
“A person who does not wear a mask can be arrested and prosecuted.
“Upon conviction, they will be punishable by a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or by both a fine and imprisonment.”
