Shonda Rhimes About Bridgerton And The HFPA

“We are not the only ones.”

Everyone loves Bridgerton – except for the Golden Globes, apparently, which completely knocked out the show this year.

As for the honor of black films and TV shows, there actually seems to be a lot wrong with the Golden Globes – specifically the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes on the awards every year. Read this and that if you catch up a little with what is needed.

Following a recent report that the HFPA rejected opportunities to reject press conferences for black TV shows and films such as Girls Trip and Bridgerton, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes – who is also the executive producer of Bridgerton – shared her experience with the HFPA regarding the show.

Rhimes confirm reports that the HFPA is holding a press conference for Bridgerton “Until it was a ‘surprise hit'” – while noting that from her other shows, from Grey’s on Scandal and How to get away with murder, was bona fide hits.

HFPA rejected our press conference. Until it was a ‘surprise hit’ (Grey’s, Scandal, Murder-SURPRISE!) And yet they STILL asked me to show up in person to present at the Globes. We are not the only ones. That’s why HFPA’s house is on fire. They lit the flame with their own ignorance. https://t.co/RPZaCa4ty3

She also claims this, despite how the HFPA treated Bridgerton, they still asked her to present “in person” at the Globes ceremony.

“That’s why HFPA’s house is on fire. They lit the flame with their own ignorance,” Rhimes continued follow up with another tweet: “And I’m the lucky one. More importantly: think of all the great talent and show out there who never even got a chance.”

Rhimes is not the only black creator who has recently spoken out about alleged discrimination by the HFPA. Yesterday Ava DuVernay also shared her experience with the voting body then her Netflix restricted series When they see us was for consideration.

During the US / HFPA press conference, less than 20 of them turned up. Based on the quality of their questions, I jokingly asked, “Have any of you seen the series?” Crickets. More came into the room when the photo was to be taken, and then two slung their scripts. https://t.co/pBWbUz2FZ3

The HFPA, in turn, promised to have ‘13% black membership ‘before the next Golden Globes ceremony. This is a start!
