Sherrone Moore Appointed Michigan New Co-OC / OL Coach

After serving as the coach of Michigan for the past three seasons, Moore’s coaching job will now be focused inside as the new offensive line coach of Wolverines. He replaces Ed Warinner whose contract expired on January 11 after working in that role for the past three years. According to sources, discussions have taken place to remain in Ann Arbor in an analysis role, but there is no confirmation that such a role was agreed upon at press time.

Sources say The Michigan Insider Moore will also add the title of co-offensive coordinator.

It was rumored that Moore was about to join the staff at his alma mater Oklahoma, but he allegedly decided to stay in Ann Arbor before things progressed in Norman. Lincoln Riley finally promoted from within to replace the retiring coach Shane Beamer.

Moore is now taking the lead on the position he previously played himself, as he was a standout at Butler County (Kansas) Community College before moving to Oklahoma for his final two years. He appeared in 14 games as an attacking guard for the Sooners, helping them win two Big 12 championships and playing in two BCS bowling games.

Moore later went on to coach and joined Louisville’s staff as a graduate assistant. He then made the leap to full-time assistant in 2012 as the Cardinals coach, the position he has coached every year since. After two years in Louisville, he spent the next four years in Central Michigan, where he added the title of co-head coach and recruiting coordinator in his final season.

Then came the leap to Michigan in 2018 where he received praise Jim Harbaugh for both his coaching and recruiting skills. The recently expanded chief executive of the Maize & Blue will try to leverage both of these qualities by giving the 35-year-old more responsibility.

Thanks to his time as a close coach, Moore is obviously well acquainted with the blocking scheme, but he also has a broad understanding of the offense as a whole after serving as attacking coordinator Josh Gattis’ eye in the air. ‘He’s also known for his ability to get in touch with players, a trait Harbaugh almost certainly wants to take advantage of with so many young linemen already in or ready to join the second deep.

Moore is also a powerful recruiter during his time in Michigan. He is acknowledged to have led to the purchase of five-star prospects Daxton hill and JJ McCarthy.
