Sheriff’s office identifies Wednesday’s suspect

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on Wednesday’s position.

According to Tom Green County, on Jan. 6 at about 10:30 a.m., investigators from the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Department supervised a known criminal.

When the fugitive got into a vehicle, he spotted investigators and started fleeing in the vehicle. Investigators began to follow and when the fugitive turned around at a high turn, he lost control and rolled the vehicle.

After the vehicle came to a halt, the suspect was spotted with a gun and after refusing to leave the vehicle, he stated that he would not be taken alive. Investigators were finally able to defuse the situation and the suspect, Agapito Chappa III, DOB 04/07/1980, surrendered without further incident.

Investigators were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Tom Green County Constables, Texas Department of Public Safety and the San Angelo Police Department.
