Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki says his 2021 plans include ‘head-to-head battles’, a ‘sequel’ and ‘shoot / RPGs’.

It’s all wild, vague, and I’m quite for it.

Yu Suzuki will always be a legend for what he managed to do with the Shenmue series. But many people forget that he was one of the main dudes at Sega AM2 and hits like Na brander and Space Harrier; what in Shenmue years later as arcade games.

He is now more than 60 years old and apparently still has just as much passion for the industry as in the 80s: the long road to having Shenmue III made is proof of that. What then is next after the said revival? Well, hopefully more Shenmue so we can actually see through the story! It has been more than 20 years.

As for the immediate future, things in his studio, Ice Net, can get a little crazy. He recently caught up with Famitsu to vaguely bother coming in 2021, and his keywords were ‘shoot / RPG’. Okay … I can kind of follow that.

He then shared his ambitions for 2021, which ‘reflect on head-to-head battles’ and the phrase ‘continue’. The sequel is therefore likely Shenmue IV, but I wonder if the “shooting” part is that Suzuki gets a bit hit by the Battle Royale bug.

Either way, there seems to be plans, en Shenmue III did not bankrupt the studio (Suzuki said the performance was “good” earlier this year). I am hopeful for what we see next.
