The Shelby County Department of Health will resume the vaccination of COVID-19 on Tuesday, January 12th.
Based on the vaccine award that was confirmed late Friday, the Department of Health will offer vaccines through appointments at the Pipkin Building, 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. at the fair, from 09:00 to 18:00 from Tuesdays to Saturdays.
Appointments can be made on the online dating app signupgenius. People without internet access can call 901-222-SHOT to start an appointment starting at 08:00 on Monday 11 January.
Other vaccination sites will be added throughout the country as the campaign continues.
The Shelby County Health Department will receive 8,900 doses of vaccine per week by the end of January, it announced late Friday afternoon.
‘In the first of the weekly January shipments, the SCHD is expected to administer up to 4,000 doses, while the rest of the vaccine is administered by the hospital systems. The weekly outbreak could change, ”according to a statement from the Department of Health on Friday, January 8.
During January, the vaccine will be available to people in the following categories: First responders with direct exposure to the public, including EMTs, law enforcement and firefighters; staff working at COVID-19 mass testing sites; staff and residents of long-term care facilities; and staff from other congregational care facilities such as homes for the intellectual or developmentally disabled and detention centers.
People who work in children’s residential facilities, rehabilitation hospitals and psychiatric hospitals who have direct patient contact or have contact with the potentially infectious materials.
So do staff at home health care with direct patient contact and staff. Everyone 18 years and older who is unable to live independently due to a serious chronic medical condition or disability is included. So do people who provide health care in K-12 schools or universities.
The list also includes funeral and mortuary workers, primary care providers and people working in outpatients. This includes pharmacists and workers for patient transport, healthcare providers in dentistry and behavior, and people working in environmental services or with COVID-19 samples.
People who are 75 years and older also qualify.
To stand a chance, persons with appointments must submit identification and proof of suitability, including age, professional license, or a letter from an employer.
