Shane Waldron may be new to the Seattle Seahawks, but he will at least have a familiar face as part of his offense next season.
With the signing of former Los Angeles Rams team-mate Gerald Everett of the Seahawks, Waldron is getting a player to Seattle who already has a background in the offensive scheme he is going to implement.
“Gerald offers versatility to any offense, so we are excited to be able to get him here and really use him as a weapon that can move and do many different things within an offensive structure,” Waldron said via John Boyle . from the team’s website.
The Seahawks offense suffered greatly from the lack of a steady third option in the passing game, especially in the second half of last season. David Moore had early flash success, but it was not frequent. Phillip Dorsett missed the entire year due to foot injuries. Greg Olsen also missed some time due to a foot injury. Josh Gordon was released to return from suspension to reinstate it when he returned to the building in December. While DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett had productive years, teams stepped on them more consistently without a third piece to adequately attack the cover.
Everett shared time with Tyler Higbee with the Rams at the end of time. Although he did not have staggering numbers during his four years with the Rams, Everett sometimes flashed with outstanding plays. Waldron believes his skills will be beneficial to have with the Seahawks.
“He has aggressive hands, and he always seems to find a way to open up to tight man-to-man coverage,” Waldron said. ‘Then the ability that the ball was first in his hand to make the first man miss or break the first suit was something he has been able to display throughout since college and at the NFL level. It is therefore a great asset to his ability to attack the ball aggressively and then let something happen to it as soon as it is in his hands. ”
Everett was a former pick in the second round in 2017 and reached a career high of 41 for 417 yards and last year a power play for Los Angeles.
