It’s officially official: Sex and the city returns via HBO Max to the small screen called a new chapter of the franchise. The news was confirmed on social media late Sunday by returning leaders Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, who will play their signing roles as Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda respectively.
Per HBO Max, the series – bearing the new title And not so… – “Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte will follow as they navigate the journey from the complex reality of life and friendship in their thirties to the even more complex reality of life and friendship in their fifties.”
The ten-hour, half-hour series begins production in late spring in New York.
As we reported in December, Kim Cattrall – who was very open about her desire to put the franchise, her co-stars and her character of Samantha – behind her, will not be involved in the quasi-seventh season.
In an interview with Piers Morgan in October 2017, Cattrall begged SATC‘s creative team to recreate the role of Samantha alongside a non-white actress. “It’s a wonderful part,” she said at the time. ‘I played it past the finish line and then played a few, and I loved it. And another actress has to play it. Maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones or a Spanish Samantha Jones. ‘
The original series, of course, aired on HBO for six seasons and brought two films to the shelves. The show earned several Emmys during the time on air, including the win for stars Parker and Nixon.
Long time Sex and the city EP Michael Patrick King will serve as showrunner / EP during the revival. Parker, Nixon and Davis will also serve as EPs.
