Tighthead Zach Ertz may be the next Philadelphia Eagle on the move.
Several teams have called the Eagles about the possibility of trading for Ertz and an agreement could be reached in the coming days, sources Michael Silver of NFL Network said.
Ertz’s potential trade would be an example of the ongoing change in Philadelphia after the team traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts last month.
Ertz (30) has a downward year with 36 receptions for 335 yards and once in 11 games. These are season lows in all three categories for the three-time Pro Bowler, but this step is not just because of Ertz’s recent lack of production.
Although the salary cap for next year has yet to be fully determined, the Eagles are expected to be well above the maximum number ($ 34,146,468 million in the red, per Over the Cap) and to trade Ertz away, their financial needs will granted. Ertz will earn a base salary of $ 8.25 million in 2021 while earning a cap of $ 12.5 million and a death capitalization of $ 7.8 million.
The Eagles are also well equipped to let Ertz go with Dallas Goedert coming to his senses after three seasons. The second-round pick had 46 receptions for 524 yards last season and struck out three.
As the Eagles continue an off-season of major changes, including the appointment of new head coach Nick Sirianni, compensation for Ertz is ideal for the Eagles. On the other hand, Ertz will be a friendly way to end a fruitful eight years with the team.
