Several people were shot in Indianapolis FedEx facility, injured

Several people were shot late Thursday in a FedEx plant in Indianapolis and the suspected shooter killed himself, a police officer said.

Indiana Police spokeswoman Genae Cook said several people had injuries similar to gunshot wounds, but she did not say if anyone else was killed.

Preliminary information is that the shooter killed himself, she said. “We do not feel that there is currently an active threat to the community,” she said.

Officials responded to reports of shots being fired at the FedEx Center near the city’s airport, just after 11 p.m., Cook said.

An unnamed witness told the NBC branch WTHR of Indianapolis that he heard gunshots while working in the FedEx facility and when he looked up, he saw an armed man. He said he was diving after hearing a few more shots. The witness then ran out of the building and saw one person on the ground.

FedEx said in a statement: “We are aware of the tragic shooting at our FedEx ground facility near Indianapolis Airport.”

“Safety is our top priority, and we think of all those affected. We work to gather more information and work with investigating authorities,” the company said.

There have been several mass shootings in the U.S. in recent weeks, including a shooting on April 8 at a cabinet company in Bryan, Texas, which killed one person and wounded five others.
