Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts on Thursday called on the Securities and Exchange Commission to do more to deal with ‘market manipulation’, with her comments because the stock market has seen big moves for GameStop GME recently
and other heavily shortened shares. “The biggest problem for me is the inability and unwillingness of the SEC to handle market manipulation,” Warren said in a CNBC interview, referring to the Securities and Exchange Commission. “To have a healthy stock market, you have to have a policeman tailored. It should be the SEC. They have to act and do their job.” Warren also said ‘there will be an investigation’, and the SEC said on Wednesday it was monitoring market volatility.
