‘Selfish’ Miles Wood responds to fines that change game in Devils-Bruins

Miles Wood knows he would have cost his team their season opener on Thursday night.

The New Jersey Devils forward, who is just as exciting to watch as he is erratic (and occasionally bony), has not one but two interference penalties on the Boston Bruins’ Tuukka Rask goalkeeper.

Both times he managed the netminder, the Bruins succeeded.

The first collision took place at 17:02 in the opening period and Brad Marchand put the Bruins in the advantage of the man with 38 seconds.

Then, at 11:13 in the third period, Wood drove for Rask again. And with just a few seconds left on the power play, Nick Ritchie put the Bruins ahead 2-1.

If he had stayed out of the box, we might have been able to talk about a different outcome than the 3-2 victory with which the Bruins walked away to Marchand’s auctioneer in the shooting.

‘These two calls to me were extremely selfish. I’ll put the blame on myself, it should not happen, ‘Wood said after the match over Zoom.

The interesting ripple this season is the number of baseball-style series teams going to play in the regular season. So the Bruins and Devils will meet again on Saturday afternoon. What level of retaliation the Browns are seeking remains to be seen.
