Self-service does not get much cheaper than this: $ 30 for a whole year

Far too many people pay too much for their phone service out of an abundance of caution. You may think that you need unlimited text or data “just in case”, but if you spend most of your time on Wi-Fi and do not send a lot of text messages, you may end up with less – much less . For example, now Red Pocket Mobile offers one year prepaid service for only $ 30. That’s right – $ 30. For a year. That’s $ 2.50 a month.

The package contains a SIM card and works with both CDMA and GSM carriers, so it should work regardless of the phone you bring to the party (as long as it is unlocked).

I’ll be honest: you won’t confuse it for a premium plan that lets you eat everything – you get 200 minutes of talks, 1,000 texts and just 200 megabytes of data per month. But if your needs are modest, this may be ideal for you. Keep in mind that we usually spend most of our time on Wi-Fi, so the problems are probably the least of your worries. The bigger question is whether you can chat for 200 minutes and get through 1,000 texts (and if you mostly use chat programs to text and make voice or video calls, the answer is probably “yes”).
