Second covid-19 vaccination mega-site scheduled for Minute Maid Park

UPDATE All new appointments for the COVID-19 vaccination field on January 16 at Minute Maid Park have been booked. The 2,600 new slots filled up 16 minutes after it opened.

Additional vaccination opportunities will be announced as supply increases.


HOUSTON The Houston Department of Health and the Astros Foundation are working together on Saturday, January 16th for a second COVID-19 vaccination site at Minute Maid Park. by appointment only.

The department plans to vaccinate about 5,000 people through 2,400 pre-scheduled appointments and 2,600 new appointments.

People who meet Phase 1A or Phase 1B of the state criteria can visit HoustonEmergency.org/covid19 (direct link: http://bit.ly/MMPvaxx011620) starting Friday at 10:00 to open the new appointment slots plan. The online dating portal will close once the slots are filled.

Saturday’s mega-website is for the first dose of vaccine. People who receive their first dose from the health department will be contacted and given information where they can plan their second dose within the appropriate schedule.

People should not arrive earlier than 15 minutes before their appointment to ensure the efficiency of the site and reduce the waiting time. It is important that people park in premises A or B to start the registration process. Minute Maid Park’s entrance to the home plate will be used for the clinic.

The Department of Health has administered the administration of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to the general public who comply with Phase 1A or Phase 1B on January 2 according to state guidelines.

The health department received an additional 8,200 doses of vaccine on Thursday, bringing the total to 30,350.

As of Thursday, the department has administered a total of 18,658 doses at locations including Minute Maid Park, Bayou City Event Center, the Northside, La Nueva Casa de Amigos, Sharpstown and Sunnyside Health Centers, the JW Peavy Senior Center and its Acres Homes, Hiram Clarke and Magnolia multi-service centers.

The department also transferred a total of 1,900 doses to other providers.

The Department of Health will announce additional vaccination opportunities at its health centers, multi-service centers, community establishments and via mobile units as supply increases.

Appointments are based on the availability of vaccines, and current appointments can be adjusted based on the department’s allocation.

Many medical providers offer vaccination based on availability. Eligible individuals should contact their medical provider or use the Texas Department of State Health Service map to find and contact vaccination providers.

The health department also operates a COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220 Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The call center hours are extended on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 17:00.
