Sean Young, best known for her roles in “Blade Runner” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” has performed in Hollywood for more than 40 years – and has seen many. Young was previously known to be difficult to work with and blacklisted, revealing how her career was sabotaged by a handful of ‘powerful, terribly vindictive men’.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, the actor said that she does not consider herself a strong will, but that she ‘made men in the 80s nervous – and for no particular reason. During the interview, Stern mentions the David Letterman interview where Young boasts of her armpit hair, after which she says Letterman is “intimidated” at the moment.
“David is much more insecure than he allows,” Young said. “However, he is a wonderful guy. In my opinion, it is much more common for show business to attract very insecure people. People who need approval. It’s not really known for attracting honest, down-to-earth, salt-of-the-earth people unless they’m in the crew. ”
Young said she always felt she was nice and straight with other people, but later realized that she might be considered ‘offensive’.
“It was not my intention,” Young said. “I only became aggressive later because I got angry, like, ‘This is serious. This is my career. You ‘re not just blacklisting me. “It’s awful.”
After James Wood starred with Young in ‘The Boost’ in 1988, James Woods filed a harassment lawsuit against her, which eventually won. Asked why Woods was so vindictive, she said she learned that a rational person would never be able to understand an irrational person.
“I could not turn my head about it,” Young said. ‘It was so nutty and stupid, and a waste, not only my time, but also not good for himself. Why are you taking all the attention away from this movie and putting it on it? ‘
The Daily Beast opened an interview between Young and Carl Reiner in 2009, where Reiner said that Young’s reputation had been unfairly tarnished by a well-known director. Asked if director Warren Beatty was, Young said: ‘Warren was definitely one of them. Steven Spielberg was another. ”

In 2017, Young revealed that Weinstein had exposed himself to her while working on the 1992 film “Love Crimes,” produced by Weinstein’s former company, Miramax. “And you have to remember that someone thinks so rudely about who they really are,” Young said. ‘I think his game plan was,’ Be as powerful as possible so I can relax. ‘It’s as simple as most of these plans are for people. It does not get deeper. ”
Asked about the ‘incredibly aggressive and awkward’ love scene in ‘Blade Runner’ that Young filmed with Harrison Ford, she said director Ridley Scott really wanted to date her, but she never went back.
“He went out with the actress who played Zhora, Joanna Cassidy, and I feel relieved,” Young said. ‘And then we do this scene, and I think it was Ridley. I think Ridley was like ‘fuck you’. I thought, ‘Why did it have to be this way? What was the point of it? ‘and I think it was Ridley’s not too subtle message that he became equal with me. ”
Young said Scott never hired her again, and when it came to ‘Blade Runner 2049’, the actress received a 30-second hologram cameo.
“Wasn’t it so full of shit?” Young said. “And I could do nothing about it. It was very clear that they knew the audience would be upset because I was not in it, but they did not want me to bitch about it in public. So, they paid me money, signed me a non-disclosure agreement and gave me 30 seconds. And I was like, well. They gave my son Quinn work on ‘[Blade Runner] 2049 ‘in visual arts, and I said everything was forgiven. He has good skills. ”
Young discussed the time when Charlie Sheen wrote the word ‘pussy’ on a tape and stabbed it on her back during the filming of ‘Wall Street’ in 1987. She said Sheen did a lot of cocaine on the set and was ‘horrible’. In addition, she calls Oliver Stone a ‘villain’ for belittling her role after holding on to Daryl Hannah, who was forced to wear a dress in which she did not feel comfortable.

After nearly dropping the role of Marion Ravenwood in ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’, Young said she insulted Steven Spielberg after asking him during a New Year’s Eve party why she did not get the role.
“He was everything,” I did not deceive you! I have not! ” Young said. I was like, ‘Whoa, calm down. I didn ‘t mean you were a bad guy or anything, but I really thought I was going to get the part. You flew me back to California twice. “Very sensitive. ”
Out of all the men mentioned, Young praised her co-star Jim Carrey, ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’. She said he fought for her to get the role, even though Morgan Creek Productions wanted someone else.
“He’s the only leading man who’s ever done that to me,” Young said. “Jim came in and said, ‘No, no, no. Whatever you hear is nonsense. She is wonderful. ”
