Sealed Pokémon Blue Nintendo game stuns fan after missing more than 20 years

A Pokémon fan was shocked when their parents unveiled a gift they lost more than 20 years ago: a sealed copy of Blue Pokémon for the Nintendo Game Boy! The story was posted on Reddit by user Lanai, who also shared an image of the game, and looks as pristine as when it was released in 1998 in North America. As many users have pointed out, sealed copies of the game are worth significant amount of money on eBay. There’s currently a 9.4 rating for about $ 20,000 available, and it’s not hard to imagine that this one would get a similar grade.

Lanai’s original Reddit post can be found below.

My parents called and asked if I was interested in a new Pokémon game. Didn’t exactly expect this one. by r / gaming

The earliest Pokémon merchandise is very important at the moment, especially if it has reached a high point. However, it is noteworthy that Lanai does not intend to sell the game. In a follow-up post, the Reddit user explained that their parents intended to give them the game as a birthday present. When it got lost, they bought them a copy of Pokémon Red, instead. Lanai went into detail about how much the Pokémon franchise meant to them, and all the good memories they played with family members. As such, the gift is far more meaningful than the money!

Given the massive popularity of Pokémon Red and BlueIt is not surprising that sealed copies are worth so much. After all, most people who bought the game had more chance of opening it up to play, rather than being sealed. In fact, this is why many older games usually sell so many collectors!

It’s really nice to hear stories like this. At a time when everyone seems to be looking for Pokémon merchandise that can be turned around for big money, a longtime fan of the franchise has received the kind of gift that anyone would want more than happy! Maybe Lanai will finally decide to sell, but for now, they have an amazing new piece for their Pokémon collection.
