Seahawks Offensive Coordinator Tracker: Joe Lombardi Appointed by Chargers

The elimination process continues for the Seattle Seahawks and the search for the next offensive coordinator. We need to turn it into a reality show. Make it like the football version of The Bachelor (ette) and Pete Carroll hands out his special playbook to his most alluring candidate.

Either way, both the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks have reportedly asked permission to interview former Detroit Lions coordinator and New Orleans Saints coach Joe Lombardi. We do not know if the Seahawks ever got the interview because Lombardi was hired by Brandon Staley and the Chargers.

Lombardi is actually a Seattle resident who went to high school in Seattle Prep on Capitol Hill. In the NFL, he served one year as a defensive assistant for the Atlanta Falcons before being hired by the New Orleans Saints in 2007. He went from the offensive assistant to the quarterback before leaving in 2014 to become the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator. Things did not go well there. Payton brought him back as QBs coach after being sacked in 2015 and now he’s getting a second chance to become an OC, this time with Justin Herbert as his quarterback.

I assume that if the Seahawks had an interview with Lombardi, it would have been an immediate disqualifying statement.

So it will not be Anthony Lynn, Joe Lombardi, Mike Kafka, Shane Steichen, probably not Doug Pederson, hopefully not Adam Gase. Maybe it’s Ken Dorsey?

Stay tuned!
