Russell Wilson made many waves in the infancy of the 2021 season. So much so that about a third of the league called the Seattle Seahawks to see what it might take to acquire the superstar quarterback via trade, according to Michael Silver of the NFL Network. Although Seattle does not do straight shopping in Wilson, call teams and Silver have identified GM John Schneider as someone who ‘listens to everything and anything’, suggesting that the club cannot immediately hang on to the investigative clubs. Seattle’s potential willingness to listen to Wilson offers is also something CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has previously noted.
At the end of the day, however, an agreement of this magnitude comes down to the price. What would it actually take to land Wilson and would teams be willing to pay for it? Silver reports that clubs across the league believe the conversation begins with three drafts for the first round. Again, this is possibly just the starting point to acquire the eight-time Pro Bowl full-back. So far, it’s unclear if any club wants to achieve that, but given Wilson’s talent, it would not be a surprise to see him make a reasonable return for the Seahawks if they finally decide to move on.
Rumors of a divorce between Wilson and the Seahawks really jumped at a rapid pace when the quarterback became known for his desires to make his voice heard in staff decisions. He also made clear his frustrations about getting too much. The 32-year-old’s decision to make his feelings known to the public was reportedly not very well received by the Seattle buyer, who helped start this potential trailer.
Wilson is under contract for the next three seasons and at a reasonably affordable price, making him an even more popular trading target for QB needy teams. Its average base salary during the 2023 season is just $ 20 million.
With all of this said, Silver did emphasize that Seattle got the message from Wilson, and it would seem like it’s preferable to work things out with their franchise caller. If they can not do that, it’s just another superstar to add to the list of players who may be on the move during one of the wilder seasons in recent memory.
