In his press conference at the end of the season, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll singled out the domestic line of attack as an area where the team can “grow and get better”, and after the start of the new league year, Seattle wasted little time to the one step to get better there, by acquiring guard Gabe Jackson in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders that became official this weekend with all trading terms.
To get Jackson, the Seahawks are sending their fifth round of this year’s draft to Las Vegas.
Jackson, 29, started 99 of 100 games in his seven-year career with the Raiders, including all 16 games last season. He played his first two seasons left and then moved to right guard for the past five years.
With Mike Iupati, the starting left-back from Seattle the past two seasons, who retired earlier this season, Jackson would be a likely candidate to take over the post unless the Seahawks think the better wait combination involves Damien Lewis from right-back to left guard must move to keep Jackson in the position he recently played in his career.
According to Jackson, the people who help Jackson especially strengthen Seattle’s pass protection, because he did not allow a bag in 2020. In four of Jackson’s seven seasons, the Raiders finished in the top 10 in the NFL for the least allowed bags, including a 2016 season in which the Raiders gave up a low bag of 18 leagues, with Jackson as a Pro-Bowl -substitute.
