Scientists confirm that for the first time in the earth’s atmosphere there were hurricanes in space

Scientists have confirmed that there is a hurricane in space that rotates high above the North Pole, reports Daily Mail. Scientists have for the first time got a glimpse of a phenomenon that they say is around all the planets. The research team led by Shandong University in China made the announcement after analyzing a 621-mile-wide swirling mass of plasma seen hundreds of kilometers above the North Pole, reports Daily Mail.

Spatial hurricane exists above the North Pole

According to the Daily Mail, researchers observed a large cyclone-shaped auroral spot with a near-zero fluid and strongly circular horizontal plasma flow and shears, all of which are found in hurricanes in the lower atmosphere. The spatial hurricanes rained electrons instead of rainwater. The spatial hurricane moved counterclockwise, as did terrestrial hurricanes in the northern hemisphere and lasted nearly eight hours until it finally broke.

Professor Mike Lockwood, a space scientist at the University of Reading, told the Daily Mail that hurricanes could be a universal phenomenon on planets and moons with magnetic fields and plasma. He said it was uncertain until now that there were plasma hurricanes, but the observation was incredible. Previous observations have found space hurricanes on Mars, Saturn and Jupiter that are similar to hurricanes in the lower atmosphere. The latest discovery is the first time a hurricane has been observed in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.

According to the study published in Nature, “a hurricane is associated with strong energy and mass transport, so a hurricane in the upper atmosphere of the earth must be violent and transmit solar wind and momentum effectively into the earth’s ionosphere”. Researchers have explained that hurricanes in space open up a fast energy transfer channel from space to the ionosphere and thermosphere. This will help reveal important details about the weather conditions in space, such as increased satellite resistance, interference in high frequency radio communication, etc.
