Dustin Diamond, best known for portraying geeky high school student Screech during the original series Saved by the Bell, stage cancer was diagnosed after seeking medical attention for a “large lump in his throat.” The actor’s representative tells EW that he is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Florida and will remain in the hospital for a while while the test continues. “He was fading in and out, and he was sleepy and tired,” the representative said. “On top of that, he also has shingles, so he was in a lot of pain.” Diamond, who was recently plagued by legal issues and did not appear in Peacock’s critical worship Saved by the Bell revival, received public words of support from his former Bayside cast Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen. “I contacted Dustin earlier tonight and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he will overcome it,” Lopez wrote on social media, and Thiessen said in an Instagram story: “Think to you, Dustin. ”
