The Sault Tribe has just received more vaccines than he expected.
They were expecting a delivery of 185 doses, as before, but what rolled off Pfizer on Tuesday was nearly 1,000.
The unexpectedly large shipment of 975 doses means they can plan even more appointments than they originally thought. It also means they have to get more needles and syringes – some doses of the vaccine do not have it.
The tribe is now working to contact elders by telephone and through advertisements at local radio stations.
The health department gives preference to members of the health division, older persons of 60 years and critical workers.
If you are a member of the Sault Tribe who is 60 years or older, the tribe posted this letter on its website stating that you can schedule your COVID-19 vaccination appointment with the Sault Tribe Health Division by (906) 632- 5200, ext. 45200. No one should receive a vaccination.
Appointments are scheduled for:
- January 5 at Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie from 09:00 to 16:00
- January 6 at Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie from 09:00 to 16:00
- January 7 at Big Bear Arena in Sault Ste. Marie from 09:00 to 12:00
Non-native spouses are currently not eligible for vaccination by the tribe.
Those who received a vaccine from the initial Pfizer shipment will receive their second dose on January 5th.
Anyone who has received the vaccine since the first Moderna shipment will receive the second dose on January 19th.
