Fire

SANTA BARBARA, California – Sushi Tyme in Santa Barbara’s Paseo Nuevo closed on Thursday after a structural fire early in the morning.

At about 2:41 a.m., Santa Barbara City firefighters responded to fire alarms ringing on 800 State Street.

There they found the small eatery filled with smoke and activated the sprinklers.

Crews said they forced the front door open and launched an aggressive attack on the fire, eventually extinguishing it in the restaurant’s kitchen.

Firefighters said the sprinklers of the building helped spread the fire to the rest of the structure.

Crew members were on the scene for several more hours to clean up water and smoke damage.

No injuries were reported.

The fire investigator determined that the fire was accidental in nature. The damage to the building is estimated at about $ 40,000 dollars.

Sushi Tyme will remain closed until repairs can be done.
